Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas on Tuesday tried to project a brave face, and repeatedly stressed that the parting of ways by former Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy would have no bearing on the party.
Speaking to media persons after the emergency meeting with MLAs and MLCs to take stock of the latest political situation, the PCC described the decision of any legislators who would chose to follow the former Kadapa MP, as being taken under emotional circumstances. He also hinted that as such, some legislators are 'disturbed psychologically' due to Jagan's resignation.
The PCC chief further criticized Jaganmohan Reddy's decision to resign from the party, and added that though this would not have much impact, it would have been better if the young leader had reconsidered his decision before taking such a hasty step.
Srinivas's repeated stress on the 'impact' aspect belied his worry about the fallout of the resignations.
He also described the resignations of Jagan and his mother Y S Vijayalakshmi as their personal decisions.
"There is no need to comment on it. We have to wait and watch the developments in the state," he said.
The PCC chief also specifically mentioned Jaganmohan Reddy's father and former chief minister late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's loyalty to the party, and hinted that being loyal could bring posts.
"YSR became chief minister of the state because of his loyalty to the high command", he stated.
Condemning the activists' resorting to damaging and burning the effigies of party president Sonia Gandhi, he said the PCC has set up a control room to monitor these incidents.
The state Congress chief said the PCC would initiate stern action against leaders who burn effigies of Sonia Gandhi in support of the former Kadapa MP.
He said the PCC would recommend to the government action against anti-social elements who take the law into their hands and resort to violence in support of Jaganmohan Reddy, and added that the high command was observing the statements of all leaders and would initiate action against them at an appropriate time.
DS also stated that the high command has already issued a notice to former minister and staunch Jagan supporter Konda Surekha asking for an explanation for her alleged anti-party activities.
