Pristine Eye Hospitals is set to launch the city's first dedicated Centre of Excellence for Dry Eye Disease on July 30.
Amid growing concern over excessive screen time and its impact on eye health, Pristine Eye Hospitals is set to launch the city's first dedicated Centre of Excellence for Dry Eye - a state-of-the-art facility aimed at tackling a lifestyle epidemic.
The centre will be formally inaugurated on July 30 by Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary, Telangana.
Dr C Jagadesh Reddy, the founder, announced this while addressing the media today at Pristine Hospitals, Madhapur.
Located in the IT Hub near the Rayadurgam metro station, opposite Raheja Mindspace, the new Centre of Excellence is equipped with:
- Diagnostic Facilities: Tear Film Analyzer, Meibography, LipiView Imaging
- Advanced Therapies: LipiFlow, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), BlephEx, MeiboFlow and Punctal Plugs
- Personalized Eye Wellness Programs: Tailored for IT professionals, teenagers and senior citizens
- Screen Smart Corporate Packages: Supporting workplace vision health
Speaking about Dry Eye Disease, Dr Reddy said, "Dry Eye Disease (DED), once predominantly seen in the elderly, is now emerging as a widespread lifestyle disorder among tech professionals and teenagers, driven by prolonged screen use. We are no longer dealing with a simple eye issue. Dry Eye is now a digital-age health crisis."
Dr Reddy described the condition as the Blink Crisis, and said that screenagers and techies were particularly at risk.
Coinciding with the centre's inauguration, the hospital's non-profit arm, Pristine Vision Foundation, is launching the "Blink Break" campaign, a city-wide awareness initiative promoting digital eye health and early detection.
For context, Dry Eye Disease is often underdiagnosed, self-treated with over-the-counter drops, or entirely ignored. If left untreated, it can lead to chronic discomfort, corneal damage, and infections. According to experts, the common causes of Dry Eye include reduced blinking (up to 60%) while using screens, prolonged exposure to air-conditioned indoor environments, poor posture and ergonomics, and extended contact lens use.
