YSR Congress' honorary president Y S Vijayamma on Wednesday demanded that the state government double the ex-gratia amount announced for the families of those killed by cyclone Nilam.
Talking to reporters after visiting Tuni, Ammojipet, Kanakipati and other flood-hit areas in the East Godvari district, Vijayamma demanded that the government increase the ex-gratia to at least Rs. 3 lakh each. She said that farmers should also be paid adequate compensation under the crop insurance schemes.
Vijayamma, who continued her survey of the flood-hit areas on the third consecutive day, accused the state government of not even listening to the problems being faced by the cyclone-affected people. She alleged that when some families had tried to convey their grievances during Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar's visit, they were pushed aside. She accused the ruling party MLAs and MPs of not visiting the affected areas even as the situation turned from bad to worse.
The YSRCP leader also interacted with the affected families, and assured them that her party would take up the matter in the Assembly. She promised them that the YSRCP would fight for their rights. Later, she also distributed blankets among the affected families. (INN)
