In a scarcely veiled warning to Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, the Congress high command said that those loyal to the party must observe the party 'dharma' and not cross the 'lakshman rekha'.
Talking to media persons, party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said that the 'lakshman rekha' of party propriety and discipline must not be crossed or it will lead to disciplinary action.
The high command's comments come a day after the Kadapa MP said that he would go ahead with the Odarpu Yatra from July 8. Jagan's Odarpu Yatra is ostensibly to console the families of those persons who committed suicide or died of shock following the death of his father, the former CM late YS Rajasekhara Reddy on September 2, 2009.
The Congress spokesperson said, "failure to do so (observe party discipline) would lead to a chain of consequences, which are best avoidable." Singhvi added that the high command trusted and hoped that Jagan's defiance would turn into compliance.
However, according to Jagan, he had sought permission to go ahead with the yatra from AICC president Sonia Gandhi on June 29. The Kadapa MP said later that the Congress president 'did not appear to be favourably inclined over the resumption of the yatra.' He added that she had not 'cited any specific reason for her discomfiture with the yatra going ahead.'
The Congress MP had met the party president along with his mother VIjayalakshmi and sister Sharmila. It is believed that Gandhi had suggested that the YSR family members could invite the affected families and console them at one place.
