Vanama Venkateswara Rao, who was
disqualified as the MLA of the Kothagudem Assembly constituency by the Telangana High Court, approached the same court today for relief.
He filed a lunch motion petition before the HC and urged it to issue a stay on its order disqualifying him as MLA until he challenged it in the Supreme Court.
After hearing the arguments of his counsel, the High Court reserved its verdict in the issue.
Meanwhile, former MLA and BRS leader Jalagam Venkat Rao, who was declared the MLA of Kothagudem by the High Court, met Telangana CEO Vikas Raj and submitted to him a copy of the High Court's verdict.
Venkat Rao wanted to be recognised by the ECI as an MLA following the disqualification of Vanama.
For the uninitiated, that Jalagam had approached the Telangana High Court against Vanama's victory in the 2018 Assembly elections, alleging that Vanama had submitted a false affidavit that did not list all his assets. The court found that to be true and announced Vanama's disqualification, and also imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on him for the crime.
