Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy retired from his service on Monday.
Reddy, who took charge as the DGP on June 30th, 2011, took the salute of the ceremonial farewell parade at the SAR CPL Parade Ground at Amberpet, Hyderabad.
The strengthening of the police force in the state could be attributed as one of Dinesh Reddy's achievements. As many as 13,023 personnel including 1254 SIs and RSIs, 61 DSPs and 11,708 SCT PCs joined the force during his tenure. The present police force, including the probationers, stands at 1,29,578.
He was also instrumental in getting tax exemptions for items sold in police canteens, education & personal loans on low interest rates for police personnel, and other welfare measures. Introduction of "Dial 100" and Sub-Controls for assistance to public were among the people-centric initiatives taken by him.
Dinesh Reddy has received praise for controlling Maoist activities in the state. Also, he managed to handle the statehood agitations in spite of being criticised on several occasions by pro-Telangana leaders.
Dinesh Reddy had earlier applied for an extention of his office tenure. However on Monday the Andhra Pradesh High Court rejected his plea and so, he retired today. (INN)
