Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today said that the people of Telangana dethroned the BRS government for introducing the "draconian" Dharani Act.
Speaking at a program where he handed over appointment letters to newly recruited Revenue Surveyors, the Chief Minister said that the previous government had brought in the Dharani Act to vest arbitrary control over lands in the hands of a few individuals.
"The people consequently gave a strong mandate against the BRS government in the Assembly elections. We had promised to scrap Dharani, and fulfilled that promise soon after coming to power," he said.
Reddy also said that every major struggle in Telangana's history had revolved around land issues, and that the armed peasant struggle was aimed at liberating people from the dominance of landlords. "We all consider land as our beloved mother," he said.
The CM urged the newly appointed surveyors to protect the rights of landowners and accurately demarcate land boundaries. He warned them that the government would not tolerate negligence or errors in their work.
Lashing out at the previous government for not issuing job notifications, the Chief Minister said that the Congress government was committed to filling all vacancies through transparent recruitment, and that these positions were part of that. "We are witnessing happiness in the eyes of the unemployed as we undertake the recruitment process," he said.
The Chief Minister also said that officials should cooperate with the government to achieve the goal of making Telangana a $3 trillion economy by 2047. "We need your cooperation to move forward in that direction. Surveyors are partners in the development of Telangana. All of us must stand by farmers, who are the backbone of the nation," he concluded.
