Director General of Police RR Girish Kumar launched the Automated Traffic Red Light And Speed Violation Enforcement System in Hyderabad city limits on Saturday.
The Automated System is seen as another step forward in non-contact enforcement of traffic rules, which aims to go a long way in reducing conflict, harassment, corruption and physical stress for traffic police and citizens.
Electronic sensors have been placed on certain stretches of roads at 10 places of Hyderabad - Patny Junction, CTO Junction, S R Nagar Junction, RTC Crossroads Junction, Mozzam Jahi Market Junction, Jubilee Hills check post, Madina Junction, Srinagar Colony Junction, Ravindra Bharathi Junction and VV Statue Junction - to control offenders jumping on the red light signal.

The sensors will be activated when the red signal is on. The sensors are connected to one video camera and one digital camera each, that will capture photographs of the violators' vehicles.
At night, a flash light gets activated along with the cameras to capture the images of violator vehicles. A laser gun system with a tri-pod stand captures speed violations (50 kmph is the maximum limit set in the city), and will take snapshots of the violations.
The laser gun camera will be mounted at one particular stretch of the main roads of the Hyderabad City, to record violations. Data will be stored in the hard disk of the laser gun, and will be sent to the e-Challan server at regular intervals. An e-Challan generated on the particular number plate will be sent to the owner of the vehicle in the form of an inland letter containing details of violation, including photographic evidence, date location and place of violation.
The fine can be remitted in any e-Seva or AP Online centre. Violators who neglect notices will be detained at any location, as their data will then be sent to the PDAs of traffic personnel.
This is a Rs. 4.5 crore project sanctioned by the DGP office. The executing agencies are UNIHZ Technologies and Matrix security And Surveillance Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad.
