Rail services in the Visakhapatnam-Kirandul division were once
again affected on the 3rd consecutive day due to a goods train being derailed on the route.
Unlike the past 2 days, when landslides had made the passage of trains on the tracks unsafe, a goods train got derailed in the section.
According to East Coast Railway sources, the iron ore laden goods train was heading towards Visakhapatnam when it was derailed near Dairla-Chimidipalli due to washing of concrete on the track.
Rescue and relief teams were pressed into service to restore the track for operations. The officials said that the restoration work would take at least 5 hours.
The officials had earlier on Wednesday resumed normal services in the section after 2 days of disruption due to landslides caused by the incessant rains. The landslides had damaged tracks at Borra Caves station forcing the Visakhapatnam-Kirandul passenger to stop at Sivalingapuram station.
Relief and rescue operation teams of the Visakhapatnam railway division had worked furiously to restore normalcy of services by clearing the tracks of boulders and mud.
Meanwhile, Visakhapatnam district was experiencing heavy rains since Saturday following a depression in the Bay of Bengal.
