The Hyderabad Commissioner of Police & Secunderabad Licensing Authority C V Anand has ordered that in the interest of public peace and tranquillity, all the holders of arms licenses residing in twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad except those employed on guard duty in the premises of nationalized banks and Public Sector Undertakings, as security personnel, and sportsmen who are members of the National Rifle Association at different levels and need to participate in various sporting events for which they need to use their rifles, should deposit their weapons with the police stations concerned or authorized arms dealers immediately under intimation to the concerned police stations in connection with the upcoming biennial elections to the Telangana Legislative Council for the Teachers' and Local Authorities' constituencies to be held in the twin cities on March 13.
Failure to comply would result in penal action initiated against the erring persons including confiscation of the weapons and also prosecution under the appropriate provisions of law, the police warned.
The weapons deposited may be taken back by the license holders on or after March 23 after completion of the election process.
