Hyderabad As UT Unacceptable: Telangana Leaders
However, the leaders are ready to accept the proposal of a Rayala Telangana, which could be formed by a merger of 4 districts in Rayalaseema with Telangana.
Minister for Backward Classes Welfare Basavaraj Saraiah, on Thursday, spoke on behalf of Telangana leaders, opposing the idea of Hyderabad as a union territory.
Talking to media persons, Basavaraj Saraiah said that the proposal of making Hyderabad a union territory, and that of a separate Telangana state without Hyderabad is not acceptable to the people of the region. However, he said that the leaders are ready to accept the proposal of Rayala Telangana, which, he said, could be formed by a merger of 4 districts in Rayalaseema.
Basvaraj expressed confidence that the Congress' high command would focus on the Telangana statehood issue once the presidential elections are done with.
Government chief whip Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy said that Congress leaders have received hints from the Centre that it is in favour of a Rayala Telangana. However, he admitted that they would abide by any decision that the high command takes on the issue. (INN)
