The TRS staged a massive dharna before the Agriculture Commissioner's Office demanding that the state government declare the entire Telangana region as drought-hit.
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Saturday staged a massive dharna before the Agriculture Commissioner's Office demanding that the state government declare the entire Telangana region as drought hit.
TRS MP Vijayashanti, floor leader Eetela Rajender and MLA T Harish Rao participated in the dharna which was attended by over 100 TRS workers.
Raising slogans against the government, the TRS workers alleged that farmers in the region were being discriminated against.
Talking to reporters, Vijayashanti said that all the districts in the region were facing severe drought conditions, and therefore the government must declare the entire region, except Hyderabad, as drought hit.
Vijayashanti said that the government must take immediate measures to help the distressed farmers who had lost their crops due to drought.
However, she added that the irresponsible behaviour of the government has added to the woes of the farmers who were already suffering. Besides imposing power cuts, the government had also failed to ensure proper supply of seeds and fertlizers to the farmers in Telangana, she said.
The TRS leaders demanded that the government announce a special package for Telangana farmers after declaring the entire region as drought-hit. They also insisted that the government ensure that farmers get uninterrupted power supply for seven hours, quality fertilizers and seeds at subsidised rates, and a suitable Minimum Support Price for their produce.
They also asked the government to pay compensation to the farmers who lost their crops. (INN)
