The Congress party should get 'feelers' from the Srikrishna Commission on the situation in Andhra Pradesh by November and announce the formation of a separate Telangana state by December 9th as a birthday gift by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, stated Secunderabad cantonment MLA P Shankara Rao on Tuesday.
Talking to media persons at the CLP office, Shankar Rao said that after the announcement of Telangana, the Centre should introduce a bill in the budget session of Parliament.
The Cantonment MLA said that the Congress was in favour of a Telangana state and has been committed to this from the beginning.
Rao said that the Congress had appointed a sub-committee under the chairmanship of Pranab Mukherjee in 2001 after the Congress leaders from the State approached Congress president Sonia Gandhi and submitted a memorandum to her.
"Only the Congress party can bring a separate state and fulfill the aspirations of Telangana people as it knows their," Rao reiterated.
The MLA revealed that he had written a letter to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Law Minister and state In-Charge Affairs M Veerappa Moily, in that connection.
Rao hoped that the Congress would come to power in the 2012 by-elections conducted for Telangana and Seemandhra regions.
Shankar Rao praised Chief Minister K Rosaiah for working hard even at his age, and criticized allegations of inefficiency and non-functioning of the government. He said that Rosaiah was being blamed for the non-functioning of his Cabinet colleagues.
The MLA demanded that the Chief Minister revamp the cabinet and drop inefficient ministers in order to streamline the administration.
