Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on Monday assured Telangana Congress leaders that he would take a decision on Telangana soon after discussing it in the core committee meeting.
The Prime Minister made this statement when a delegation of Telangana Congress met him at his residence on Monday.
Talking to media persons, Major Industries Minister J Geetha Reddy stated that the PM had given the Telangana leaders a patient hearing, and that he had assured them that he would take a decision after discussing it in the core committee meeting and with Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
She said that the Telangana leaders had appealed to the PM to take a decision on statehood early and to putting an end to the uncertainty in the state.
She said the farmers' problems in the Telangana region, the grave power situation, and the issue of salaries for employees who had participated in the general strike have been brought to Prime Minister's notice.
BC Welfare Minister Basavaraj Saraiah said that people are even "ready to commit suicides" if the problem was not addressed soon.
The Prime Minister asked the delegation to list out all their problems in the region.
The delegation consists of 18 members including MPs V Hanumantha Rao, G Vivek, Madhu Yaskhi Goud and ministers D K Aruna, Sunitha Lakshma reddy and others. (INN)
