Telangana Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao today reopened Deccan Park at the Qutb Shahi Tombs, after it shut for 11 years.
The sprawling 31-acre park, that has a musical fountain, a boating pond, a stage, a canteen building and other facilities besides entrancing green corridors, was closed in 2006 due to some legal issues, and after court clearance, has been reopened.
Speaking on the occasion, KTR said that he was happy to reopen the park that had been closed for several years for various reasons. Now people could again walk in the lush green precincts of the park and enjoy the natural beauty and pleasing environment, he said. He appreciated the GHMC and other officials for beautifying the park and taking up other works in it, and added that the park would be developed further as part of Haritha Haram (the government's tree plantation drive).
The minister added that Hyderabad was likely to soon get heritage city status from UNESCO, and that the government has already sent a proposal in this regard. The city was blessed with many historic monuments like the High Court building, the Golconda fort and Mecca Masjid, to name a few, and the plea of the state government was under active consideration by UNESCO in the wake of the Centre too according its nod for it, the minister said.
Upon a request made by Jubilee Hills MLA M Gopinath to permit walkers into the park, KTR responded positively and declared that the park would be open for morning and evening walkers.
Thanking KTR for relaunching Deccan Park, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi appealed to the minister to also renovate and take up beautification works at Katora Houz near the Golconda fort. He also requested the Minister to renovate the defunct swimming pool at Deccan Park.
Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, Union Labour and Employment Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, Home Minister N Narasimha Reddy, minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin, GHMC Commissioner Dr B Janardhan Reddy and officials were present at the reopening ceremony.
