Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao, on Friday, expressed regret over the booking of cases against Labour minister D Nagender at the Banjara Hills police station.
Talking to reporters after meeting Danam at his residence in Banjara Hills, Hanumantha Rao said that it is wrong to register cases against a cabinet minister without facts being verified.
He said that this incident would affect the image of both the government and the ruling party. He added that Home minister P Sabitha Indira Reddy should have interfered in the issue before the police registered a case against Danam.
Accusing the police of "over-action", Hanumantha Rao demanded that DCP West Zone Stephen Ravindra be transferred. He said that it was Stephen Ravindra who, along with his team, had barged into the OU hostels and lathicharged Telangana activists; and said that he was acting as an extra-constitutional authority.
The Rajya Sabha member demanded that the state government order a detailed probe into the incident and withdraw the cases booked against Danam. (INN)
