DEd Candidates Threaten Suicide
D Ed candidates launched a dharna from Lumbini Park, demanding that the government make an announcement on filling all vacant teacher posts immediately.
Protesting Diploma in Education (D Ed) candidates, on Wednesday, demanded that the State government fill 30% of Secondary Grade Teacher posts under District Selection Committee (DSC) 2008, in accordance with GO No 28 immediately.
Raising slogans against the government, the D Ed candidates launched a dharna from Lumbini Park, and demanded that the government make an announcement on filling all vacant teacher posts immediately.
The candidates set a deadline of 24 hours for the State government to make its stand clear on recruitments. They have threatened to commit mass suicides ff the government does not make any announcement in connection with DSC recruitments within the stipulated time.
The protestors pointed out that the K C Reddy Committee, the Prof. Haragopal Committee and the AP Administrative Tribunal, too, had recommended the appointment of D Ed candidates in 30% of SGT posts.
They charged the State government with not according priority to D Ed candidates and planning to put off appointments by one more year.
Later, the candidates attempted to picket the Secretariat, but the police foiled their attempts by arresting a few of them. They were shifted to a nearby police station.
