Demanding posting orders to all qualified candidates in the District Selection Committee - 2008 (DSC-2008) examination, teacher aspirants, on Thursday, tried to picket the Secretariat.
Raising slogans against the government, the aspirants picketed the main gate of the Secretariat. However, the police foiled their bid and took all activists into custody.
The candidates had a heated argument with the Secretariat police at the main gate, and tried to forcibly enter the premises.
They demanded that the government make an announcement on filling of vacant teachers posts immediately.
One candidate attempted to immolate himself by dousing kerosene on his body. However, the police foiled his attempt and shifted him to a nearby police station.
The police even foiled the hunger fast of B Ed candidates, which entered the third day on Thursday, at Indira Park, and forcibly shifted them to hospital. However, they continued the hunger protest in the hospital.
The candidates had, earlier, set a deadline of 24 hours for the State government to make its stand clear on recruitments. They also threatened to commit mass suicides if the government did not make announcement on recruitments.
