The Kiran Reddy government suffered a major jolt on the the day of swearing in of its cabinet ministers after 2 ministers - Vatti Vasantha Kumar and Komatireddi Venkat Reddy - resigned.
The reason for the dissent is the dissatisfaction of the ministers with their portfoilios. Vatti had held the Rural Development portfolio in the previous government, and was not happy with the Tourism and Culture portfolio handed to him on Wednesday.
Komatireddi, who had been the Technology and Communication minister in the Rosaiah government, refused to accept the Infrastructure ans Investment portfolio allotted to him by the Kiran Reddy government.
The main bone of contention in the allocation was the allottment of plum, revenue-generating profiles to the Reddy community, while the ministers from the backward classes got a raw deal with minor, non-revenue generating profiles.
While the Reddy community clinched 14 berths, the ministers from the backward classes were allotted 10 berths.
Other ministers including Botsa Satyanarayana, Dharmana Prasada Rao, Kasu Krishna Reddy, and Thota Narsimhan were also not happy with their portfolios, and have threatened to resign.
