Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police Gautam Sawang today said that the crime rate in the State had come down by 6% this year.
He also said that the police were able to crack the whip on the gutka mafia, the sand mafia and the belt shops in the State. The police had also gotten many gambling and card clubs to shut down, he said.
Also, Maoists activities had gotten confined to only two districts - Visakhapatnam and East Godavari - he claimed.
Steps were also being taken to implement the Disha Act in the State, he added.
Sawang said that the AP police had won several awards at the national level this year for its performance.
