CPM Secretary Thammineni Veerabhadram today demanded that the Modi government withdraw its three new farm laws immediately amidst the escalating protests in the national capital.
Speaking after participating in a farmers' rally in Uppal against the farm laws, he said that the Modi government had "killed the Constitution" on the occasion of the nation's 72nd Republic Day by being unable to control or resolve the ongoing protests.
(The farmers' agitation today
turned violent as the agitators clashed with the police after the former reportedly breached police barricades in the national capital.)
The CPM leader asked the Centre to repeal the farm laws at the earliest, and warned that it that if it failed to do so, the ongoing protests would only grow in strength.
"Under the Modi regime even poets and journalists have been jailed. This is unacceptable as it is deeply undemocratic. The Centre must take a more pro-people stand while dealing with the issues of the people of the nation," he said.
Veerabhadram also hit out at Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for his dual standards on the issue of the implementation of the three farm laws, and said that the latter's
"U-turn" on the issue proved that he was always "bowing to Modi".
He also ridiculed KCR for trying to promote his son, IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao, to the post of CM, and hinted that the move reeked of nepotism.
Various parties in the state have spoke out against the farm Acts today. This follows an
all-party meeting in the state, attended by the Congress, the TDP, the TJS and various left parties, where the parties decided to launch a protest against the Acts.
