The union government today stated that it could not buy boiled rice from Telangana.
The Centre was reacting to the Maha Dharna address of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in Hyderabad. It said that it would not procure boiled rice from Telangana as it had stated earlier.
The Centre also advised the states to avoid cultivating paddy and cultivate cereals, oil products and other crops which would fetch more income.
It added that it would hold meetings with the states and decide on buying farm produce in the future.
The response from the Centre came soon after KCR's protest. The CM had demanded that the Centre express its stance on clearing the paddy stocks of the state in two days. He also announced that he would fight with the Centre to get clarity of paddy and some other demands of the state.
The state's ministers had also given a representation to Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on the paddy issue.
