Terming the separate Telangana statehood issue as a major impediment to the progress of Andhra Pradesh, Communist Party of India (Marxist) state secretary B V Raghavulu said that he did not see a possibility of the Congress solving the imbroglio even after the Justice Srikrishna Commission Report is submitted.
Speaking at the extended meeting of the party state committee on Sunday, Raghavulu charged that the administration in the state has collapsed due to the infighting in the ruling Congress party.
He added that the government has not only neglected farmers who had borne the brunt of 5 successive natural calamities, but also all the other sections of the society.
CPM politburo member Sitaram Yechury, in his address reminded that it was time for the Left to revitalise itself in the country and rebut the attack on the ideology by what he termed as 'reactionary' forces - which, according to hinm included the Congress, Trinamool Congress, Corporate Media, Maoists, Non-Government Organisations and Right Wing parties like the Bharatiya Janata Party. Yechury said these forces have launched a concerted attack on the Left.
Yechury called on the Left forces to not only rebut the attack but overcome them so that the economic policies employed by these 'reactionary' forces, which are overburdening the people, are defeated.
He said that the onus was on the Left forced to defeat the attacks, and added that the CPM in particular was facing the challenge.
The veteran Communist leader said that the people were overburdened by the high rate of taxation, which was pushing up the prices of essential commodities. He stated that over Rs. 1.2 lakh crore was being collected as tax on petroleum products alone.
Yechury said that it was the responsibility of the party workers to fight for the people, and that only the Left front can fight anti-people policies.
