As the heavy rains on Monday led to traffic snarls and water-logging in several parts of the city, Telangana Congress leaders condemning the functioning of the TRS government, alleging that it had failed utterly in keeping the promises that it had made during last year's GHMC election campaigning to make Hyderabad free of these problems.
Addressing a joint press conference with Deputy CLP leader T Jeevan Reddy and former chief whip Gandra, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Leader Of Opposition in the Telangana Legislative Council, challenged Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao to a public debate on the "horrifying" situation of the state capital and other towns in Telangana as they were being battered by the South-West monsoons.
"What happened to your 100 days action plan? Is this the outcome? We are ready for a debate even in the presence of the media, any time and anywhere," Shabbir Ali fulminated.
He said that students who had to appear for the TT exams today had a harrowing time due to traffic snarls caused by the water-logged roads.
"The TRS government has failed to implement any of the 21 major promises made during last GHMC polls in 2016," said Shabbir Ali. "If it cannot handle the situation, let them give up power, and the Congress can show how to manage the situation."
Describing KTR as "Pheku Rao" and "Gali Rao", Shabbir Ali said that the minister had no locus standi to talk about the Congress or its Vice-President Rahul Gandhi.
Advising the TRS leaders in general and KTR in specific to stop blaming the Congress for all their failures, he urged them to attend to the people's problems seriously at least during the monsoons, and ensure that the school children, youth and working women weren't inconvenienced.
