The Telangana Congress today slammed the state government over the much-awaited Pay Revision Commision (PRC) report that was released recently, and alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had published the report only to woo the employees ahead of the upcoming graduates' constituencies elections in the state.
Speaking to the media on the matter, party leader and former minister G Chinna Reddy said that the employees of the state had hoped that the CM would announce a substantial pay hike for them.
"After first delaying the release of the PRC report, the government has now left the employees disappointed yet again with the meagre pay hike it has proposed. Against the demand for a 63% rise, the government has only decided to increase wages by a scanty 7.5%," Reddy said.
"Where former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh Konijeti Rosaiah had sanctioned a 35% wage hike for the government employees during his rule, the current regime is not even being able to raise salaries by 10%. How can one believe its claims of being invested in the people's welfare then?" he asked.
The former minister also accused the government of trying to use the report to mislead the people of the state ahead of the upcoming MLC elections.
"The government has hastily released a PRC report with useless recommendations in an obvious effort to mollify and mislead the employees because the MLC elections are drawing closer," he alleged.
Reddy demanded that the TRS government immediately increase wages by 53%, and warned that if it failed to do so, the Congress would launch a state-wide agitation till the employees' demand were met.
The Congress is not the only party that has criticised the TRS government for "neglecting" the government employees of the state. The Telangana BC Welfare Association also
rebuked the government for its failure to stand by the teachers of the state, while the TJS
lashed out at the CM for delaying the announcement of the PRC.
