Congress party leaders took umbrage against YSR Congress Party President Y S Jaganmohan Reddy for utilizing his father's name and fame in the by-election campaign in the Kadapa district, and termed it as 'unethical and unholy'.
The Congress leaders had on Saturday submitted a complaint to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Bhanwar Lal, along with evidence, at the Secretariat against Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, alleging that he had misused the election symbol, the portrait of the late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, among other things.
Addressing media persons, Congress leader Madasu Gangadhar asserted that Jaganmohan Reddy had no right to use either the picture or the name of his father politically as YSR was a Congress leader till the last minute of his rule.
"Only the Congress party has the right to use YSR's name and picture, and his son had no such right. We have no objection if Jaganmohan Reddy uses his father's picture in his house, and nor do we have any objection if he is called the heir of YSR's properties," he said.
Stating that Jaganmohan Reddy was indulging in malpractices, Gangadhar said that ceiling fans were being distributed in the district to influence and attract the attention of the voters.
He also charged that the independents who had filed nominations for the Kadapa seat were being forced to campaign for Y S Jaganmohan Reddy. The independents were allowed facilities like vehicles, personal passes and election agents, and they were misusing those facilities to the advantage of Jaganmohan Reddy, he said. (INN)
