Congress Slams EC For "Inaction" On TRS Election Code Violat

Hyderabad | 7th April 2019
The Congress today sent a copy of the Constitution of India as a gift to the Election Commission authorities asking them to show some respect towards it and implement the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in Telangana.

Irked by the "inaction" against the TRS leaders, especially Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, despite "repeated violations" of the MCC, Telangana PCC official spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin adopted the novel way to send to the EC authorities a strong message.

He also sent as gifts photos of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr B R Ambedkar to Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora, Telangana CEO Rajath Kumar and Telangana Chief Secretary S K Joshi.

Addressing the media at Gandhi Bhavan later, Nizamuddin alleged that the Election Commission of India was not performing its duties in an unbiased manner. For example, he said, Chief Secretary Joshi and two other senior IAS officers had released a book named "Bangaru Telangana" on April 5, just six days before the polling, in an open violation of the MCC, but the EC did not take any action against the Chief Secretary despite the Congress lodging a complaint.

Nizamuddin described the TRS as a large pink balloon which was getting fatter each day due to the joining of leaders from different parties. A day would come soon when this balloon would burst due to overcrowding, he said.
