Telangana Congress Legislature Party leader K Jana Reddy condemned film critic Kathi Mahesh's remarks in TV news channels and on the social media on the Ramayana, and demanded that the state government initiate action against him immediately.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Reddy said that Mahesh's remarks would result in hurt sentiments and lead to agitations. Claiming that all sections of the people were appalled by and recoiling at Kathi Mahesh's remarks, Reddy said that the society and the government needed to act in a manner that would ensure that such incidents would not recur, and asked the government to start statutory proceedings against Mahesh treating the offence as on par with those of terrorism and Maoism.
He also asked journalists to maintain restraint and not publish such "debased" words in the media, and political parties and religions to not encourage such elements.
Meanwhile, leaders of the Telangana units of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Bajrang Dal met DGP Mahendar Reddy at his office and submitted a memorandum urging him to take immediate action on TV9 as it was "intentionally" promoting anti-Hindu programs and bringing certain people onto its shows with the sole intention of insulting Hinduism and Hindu gods.
