Telangana Congress Legislature Party leader K Jana Reddy today alleged that State Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had failed to fulfill the assurances that he had given to the people during the 2014 elections.
Several Congress leaders including Reddy and TPCC working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and CPI leader Chada Venkat Reddy visited the ongoing two-day hunger strike camp of Gadwal MLA D K Aruna and former TPCC chief Ponnala Laxmaiah on Saturday, and delivered brief speeches.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy urged the gathering to question the government without fear of persecution, and promised that the Congress would back them up.
The Congress leader pointed out that the Telangana government had not yet fulfilled several of its key election promises including the KG-to-PG scheme, the double-bedroom house scheme and the promise of alloting 12% reservations for Muslims.
He also claimed that the government was misleading the people in the name of the districts' re-organisation. He said that the new districts should be created based on geography, government facilities, population and history instead of on Party representations or political agendas.
TPCC working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka also weighed in on the districts issue, and demanded that the State government announce clear guidelines on the re-organisation.
He said that the Congress would extend its cooperation to the hunger strike and the movement, and promised that it would not stay silent if the TRS-led government created the districts based on political expediency.
Speaking next, CPI State secretary Chada Venkat Reddy said that his Party would not accept KCR's unilateral decisions on the re-organization of mandals, revenue divisions or districts. He opined that it should be done scientifically.
The government should consider the aspirations of the people, too, while creating new districts, he added.
