Alleging that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was harassing the Osmania University students, former Sangareddy MLA and Congress leader T Jagga Reddy opined that it was the former that was behind the recent GO banning public and political meets on campus.
The GO was intended to ensure that public meetings by students would not to be conducted on the campus as the Chief Minister was not in a position to go to the university, since the irate students would heckle him and chase him out.
Reddy said that the students would however chase the Chief Minister wherever the latter went if he issued such GOs. Also, the state government had issued the GO banning public meetings in Osmania University only after Congress party's announcement that AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi would attend a public meeting for unemployed youth on the campus on June 18, he said, making it clear that the immediate motivation for the GO was to thwart that meeting. The Congress would however conduct the meeting in the Osmania University at any cost, Reddy said, and vowed that the Congress would stand by the students.
He faulted the Chief Minister for banning on public meetings in the university today forgetting that the creation of separate Telangana was possible only with the help of the OU students.
He demanded that the government withdraw the GO immediately.
