The Congress in Andhra Pradesh paid tributes to the late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, at Gandhi Bhavan, on his the occasion of his 62nd birth anniversary on Friday.
After paying floral tributes to the YSR statue at Punjagutta, the leaders proceeded to Gandhi Bhavan, where a number of speeches recalled YSR's services to the Congress and to the state.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha and former chief minister K Rosaiah were among the politicians who garlanded YSR's statue.
Kiran Kumar Reddy said that YSR always thought about the welfare of the Congress party, and strived hard to keep it united. An observation apt to the times, with the Congress buckling under varied forces of insubordination - with some leaders snuggling up to YSR's son Jagan, and some noisily resigning from posts to pledge support for a Telangana state.
YSR's brother Y S VIvekananda Reddy opined that were YSR alive today, the current political turmoil would not have arisen, and said that YSR would have handled the Telangana issue better than is being handled now.
