"Though the state Congress has sent the largest group of MPs to Parliament, they have failed to assert their position and mount pressure on the central government to secure adequate funds required to launch relief and rehabilitation programs in cyclone-affected districts," said Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) president K Chiranjeevi.
Expressing his anger over the failure of state MPs in getting funds from centre for various development projects taken up by the state, the PRP chief said that though the state suffered enormous losses due to cyclone Jal, especially in Chittoor, Krishna, Pakasam, Guntur and Nellore districts, the MPs had failed to get requisite funds from the centre.
The PRP leader alleged that the MPs were working to protect their interests and kowtowing before the High Command to protect their seats. The PRP chief challenged the MPs to enter into a debate on this issue.
Chiranjeevi stated that the administration in the state had failed completely in providing relief to flood victims and farmers, and blamed Chief Minister K Rosaiah for failing to take effective relief measures in flood-hit districts.
The PRP chief demanded the government give interest-free loans to farmers to take up agriculture operations, and also increase the assistance presently being given to farmers and flood victims.
Asked to comment on the bifurcation of the state, the actor-turned-politician said that he would react only after the submission of Srikrishna Commission's report on the situation in the state. However, Chiranjeevi made it clear that he would always work for the integration of state.
Asked to react on the comments made by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K Chandrasekhar Rao, the PRP chief said that there was no need for any reaction to the statements. "The TRS chief himself does not know about what he speaks on the Telangana issue. So there is no need to worry about his comments," Chiranjeevi stated.
As part of his second day tour in the district, the PRP leader interacted with Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam's forest department officials, hawkers and displaced persons. He later held discussions with TTD Executive Officer I Y R Krishna Rao over their problems.
