Slamming the State government for its alleged failure in taking up rescue and relief works in the cyclone-affected districts, Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) president K Chiranjeevi on Sunday demanded action against the officials' lax attitude in providing relief to victims.
Chiranjeevi, who came to Kakinada on Sunday morning by Gowtami Express, visited Indrapalem, Samalkot, Tallarevu, Pithapuram, Kajuluru, Karapa and Gollapalem mandals, and enquired about relief works among flood-affected farmers.
Criticizing the officials' lackadaisical attitude in taking up relief works in the rain-ravaged areas, the actor-turned-politician demanded the officials estimate crop loss properly, and pay compensation to the victims immediately.
The PRP chief also asked district collector M Ravi Chandra to take up immediate rescue and relief operations in the flood-hit areas.
Chiranjeevi urged the district collector to set up relief centres, and provide food and health camp facilities to the victims.
The PRP leader said that his party would extend full cooperation to officials in the relief works in the cyclone-hit areas. If the officials failed to provide relief materials to victims, the party would intensify its agitation against the government, the PRP chief warned.
Chiranjeevi said that the flood victims issue should not be politicized, and should be treated on humanitarian grounds.
MLA Vanga Geetha Viswanath, Kakinada Rural MLA K Kannababu, PRP district president J Nehru, and P Mohan Gandhi accompanied the PRP leader in his tour.
