Senior Congress leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka today mocked Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for his recent remarks on the irrigation projects of the neighbouring state of Andhra Pradesh.
(In what could have become a major escalation of the bitter and longstanding feud between the two Telugu states over the waters of the Krishna and the Godavari rivers, KCR had reportedly stated that he would "clash" with AP for the sake of Telangana's "rightful share of the river waters.)
Speaking to the media on the issue, Bhatti Vikramarka derided the state's Cabinet for its "delayed reaction", and said, "The Telangana leadership is reacting to an issue that is a year old. AP had issued a GO to transport water from the state in the name of its Sangameswara Lift Irrigation Project. After all this time, the ruling party is suddenly trying to create the impression that it will launch a war against the Jagan government to prevent it from unjustly taking Telangana's water."
He then alleged that the CM had put the interests of the public at stake to benefit contractors and other agencies, and added, "The people of the state should teach KCR a lesson. His government has not provided water to even a single acre of land in the Krishna basin. In fact, no area of the state has been able to actually get water from the various irrigation projects launched by the CM in the last seven years."
