Congress leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka today alleged that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was responsible for the "water woes" being faced by the people of the Khammam and Nalgonda districts.
He also alleged that the KCR government had not taken any action against the Andhra Pradesh government despite a complaint lodged by the Congress which stated that the AP government was constructing an illegal lift irrigation project at Sangameswaram.
Criticising KCR's stand on the water dispute between Telangana and AP, the leader added that the construction of the illegal lift irrigation project was causing water problems for the people of both districts.
He said that KCR was more concerned about his own economical and political interests rather than the water interests of the state. In fact, he alleged, the Congress leaders who were protesting against AP's "illegal" projects were jailed.
"Where was KCR when the Congress had fought against the construction of the Pothireddypadu project? It is clear to see that he is responsible for allowing the construction of the illegal project. It was KCR who had conceived of the project. I would like to ask the CM whether he has been able to provide irrigation waters to even a single acre in the state during his rule. It is time the TRS government stop the looting of our waters," Vikramarka demanded.
He also claimed that where the Congress had taken up several projects to provide water to 15.5 lakh acres of land, the TRS government had made no such efforts.
