Congress leader and MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy was today apprehended by the police at the Bongulur road toll plaza of the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
The leader was arrested after he had earlier declared that he would organise a rally with 10,000 party workers to demand that the Telangana government sanction funds of Rs 2,000 crore for the Dalits of his constituency, Munugodu, as it had done for the Dalit community in Huzurabad. He had also said that he would hold a demonstration to protest against Minister G Jagadish Reddy.
(It is pertinent to mention here that the MLA and the minister had recently gotten into a
bitter argument at a public event.)
Following this, the police apprehended the MLA as soon as he left from Hyderabad for his constituency. They also arrested several party workers from the Chityala, Narketpalli, Nakrekal and Ramannapeta areas of the Munugodu constituency.
After this, Rajagopal Reddy and various other party leaders have condemned the arrest of the Congress workers and have demanded that the police immediately release all the arrested cadres.
Reddy has also demanded that the state government implement its Dalit Bandhu Scheme uniformly across Telangana. He has said that the party will not allow the MLAs of the TRS to visit their respective constituencies if this is not done, alleging that the scheme has been introduced only to "ensure the defeat" of former minister Etala Rajender in the upcoming by-election in Huzurabad.
