PM Visit: Opposition Leaders Held For Protests
The Telangana police detained several Opposition leaders for launching a protest on dalit attacks on the occasion of PM Narendra Modi's visit to the State.
The local police in the Medak district detained several Opposition leaders for starting a protest on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Telangana.
Former MP Suresh Shetkar, former MLAs Marri Shashidhar Reddy and T Jagga Reddy, and Medak Youth Congress leaders Kiran and Mahesh were taken into preventive custody.
The police also detained Congress, CPM and TDP leaders in the districts of Medak and Nalgonda, fearing chaos during the PM's visit.
Outraged by the arrests, several Opposition leaders branded them as an "atrocity". They said that dissent was an unwritten right of every citizen in India, and accused the government of suppressing the people's freedoms by denying them the right to protest.
The leaders were protesting the Prime Minister's alleged lack of action against the ongoing attacks on dalits across the nation.
