D K Aruna Resigns Demanding New Gadwal District

Telangana Congress leader and Gadwal MLA Aruna has quit her Assembly seat demanding the creation of a new district with Gadwal as its headquarters.
Hyderabad | 1st October 2016
Taking a diplomatic stance, Telangana Congress leader and Gadwal MLA D K Aruna today submitted her resignation demanding that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao create a new district with its headquarters at Gadwal.

Announcing her resignation at Gandhi Bhavan, the Congress MLA read her said, "I am sending the resignation letter addressed to the Hon'ble Speaker of the Telangana State Legislative Assembly, and to the Chief Minister of the Telangana State. The letter will first go through the CM, who will have to review it and also the Gadwal plea attached therein, and then foward the same to the Speaker for acceptance."

Citing the reason for her resignation, she said that several TRS leaders from the Mahabubnagar district were blaming her for the rejection of the demand to create a new district with Gadwal as its HQ.

"Some of the TRS leaders are blaming me for KCR's rejection of the plea to create a new district with Gadwal at its centre. Therefore I am submitting my resignation and no longer wish to be an MLA, and am forwarding the same to the Chief Minister. Now that I will be gone, he can finally carve the district in the name of Gadwal," she said.

She alleged that the Chief Minister was not bothered about the 13,403 petitions that were made online demanding the same, as well as opposing the merger of the Nadigadda area into the new Wanaparthy district.

When asked why had she not sent the resignation letter directly to the Speaker, she said that she wanted the CM to first create the Gadwal district and only then forward the letter to the Speaker for acceptance of her resignation. She said that this way, it would prove that she wanted nothing but creation of the district, and that the move was not politically motivated.

She said that even numerous Rasta Rokho rallies, Padayatras and hunger strikes by the public and politicians alike could not draw the CM's attention to the demand.

Clearing the air about her career as a politician, she said that she would not quit politics and would compete in the next by-elections.
