AICC Secretaries Ch Vamshichand Reddy and S A Sampath Kumar on Wednesday called on the Director General of Forests Siddharth Das and urged him to withdraw the proposals for taking up uranium mining in the dense Nallamalla forest.
They also submitted a representation to this effect.
The two leaders reportedly told the DG about the protest programs being held by different civil society organizations against the extraction of uranium mining in the forest citing huge ecological and environmental damage in the forest area.
They also told the DG that the mining would endanger the lives of the Chenchu tribals, who had been living in the forest since ages.
The Director General reportedly responded positively on the representation submitted by the Congress leaders, and told them that he would review the decision on the issue.
