Veteran Telangana Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao today demanded that the state government hold celebrations to observe the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Indian national flag, in April.
He asked the state government why it was not already taking steps to arrange the same, and why it was not interested in honouring the work of Pingali Venkaiah, the designer of the tricolour.
VHR added that irrespective of the TRS government's decision, he would personally hold programs to commemorate the occasion across the state, and use the programs to spread patriotism across its villages.
"Whether or not the TRS government shows any interest in commemorating the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Indian national flag, I will personally take the initiative to do so, and will use the occasion to imbue in the people of the state a sense of patriotism," he said.
The Congress leader took the opportunity to also lambast Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the latter's "failure" to protect the interests of the OBC community in the nation, and alleged that the community was being treated unjustly.
"On paper, the OBCs have a 27% quota in the country. However, the government has failed to implement even 10% of this 27%. I would urge the PM, who is also an OBC, to take a more active role in ensuring the welfare of the community," he said.
