Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Saturday claimed that his party was in revival mode in the new State.
Speaking to media persons after participating in the Quit India Movement anniversary celebrations at Gandhi Bhavan, Ponnala said that the Congress cadre was still active across Telangana, and had been gearing up to launch agitations against the failures of the State and Central governments.
He admitted that the Congress party had failed to capatalise on the fact that Congress President Sonia Gandhi took a decision in favour of Telangana despite having reports that it would be washed out in the Seemandhra region if it did that.
He said that the Congress government had implemented several welfare schemes during its 10-year rule, benefitting lakhs of people. However, he said that those achievements were not properly conveyed to the people during the election campaign.
Ponnala said that the Congress would don the role of an active opposition Party. He said that the ongoing district-wise reviews on the Party's performance had brought positive results, and also highlighted the Party's weaknesses. He said that the Party would be strengthened at the grassroots levels through work on weeding out the weaknesses. (INN)
