Peddapalli MP G Vivekanand on Sunday stated that the Telangana Congress leaders would extend financial assistance to the families of those who laid down their lives for the cause of Telangana statehood from Adilabad, on the lines of the
same programs organised at Karimnagar on Saturday.
Talking to media persons, Vivekanand said that the financial package would be distributed to the martyrs' kin at a program to be held at Manchiryala in Adilabad district on October 10th.
The money for the package will be contributed by Congress leaders.
Vivekanand was speaking after attending a meeting held at the residence of Rajya Sabha member K Kesava Rao on Sunday. The meeting was held to discuss the arrangements for the program.
Vivekanand revealed that the Congress leaders were awaiting a report from the Superintendent of Police over the number of Telangana martyrs from the district.
"We have asked the Superintendent of Police to submit a report on those who committed suicide during the statehood agitation," he said.
"The program will be organized in Manchiryala as a large number of students and agitators laid down their lives from this place, instead of Adilabad district headquarters," the MP said.
"This program is not the same as the Odarpu Yatra taken out by Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy. It is a Martyrs meet launched to recall the services of people from Telangana, who laid down their lives for the cause of Telangana statehood," Vivekanand said.
Hailing balladeer Gaddar's decision of forming a Telangana People's Front, Vivekanand said, "Our goal is the formation of Telangana state. In this regard, we will invite the formation of associations, parties and fronts."
Adilabad District Congress Committee leaders participated in the meeting.
