Congress Defends GHMC Adjournment
It is an established Parliamentary procedure to adjourn the session after a condolence motion, say Congress leaders, on the Mayor adjourning the council today.
The Congress on Wednesday defended the decision of GHMC Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain, of adjourning the Corporation's ordinary meeting after passing the condolence motion for Sarojini Pulla Reddy.
Talking to reporters, MLC M S Prabhakar, Deputy Mayor D Rajkumar and floor leader D Rambabu thanked the Mayor for passing the condolence motion. They said that it was an established Parliamentary procedure to adjourn the session after passing a condolence motion, although the Mayor has discretionary powers to continue the session.
Denying allegations of "match-fixing" between the Congress and the MIM over the convening of the GHMC meeting, they said that as discussed, the GHMC's special meeting will be held on February 18 to pass the budget. They said that there were no obstacles in passing the GHMC's budget, and that the budget would be sent to the government before its deadline of February 21. (INN)
