Congress Slams UoH Students' Arrest, Seeks VC Arrest

The Party pledged to fight in support of the students, and said it would approach the Human Rights Commission in this regard.
Hyderabad | 23rd March 2016
Holding the Telangana government responsible for the sequence of events at University Of Hyderabad and Osmania University during the past few days, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday condemned the arrest of students and demanded their immediate release.

Addressing the media at Gandhi Bhavan, the TPCC chief said that the reinstatement of Vice-Chancellor Appa Rao was the main reason for the violence on the campus. Instead of taking action against the Vice-Chancellor under the SC/ST Atrocities act under which he had been booked, the government had reinstated him even as the students were protesting the "feudal behavior" of the university authorities, he said.

He said that his Party would fight in support of the students, and would approach the Human Rights Commission in this regard.

Congress MLA S A Sampath Kumar, who was injured in the lathi charge on campus, said he was selectively targeted by the police.

TPCC spokesperson Vijay, who is doing a Ph D from OU, was also injured in the attack. Showing the injuries to the media persons, he alleged that he was targeted only because of his affiliation with the Congress.

TPCC working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, MLAs T Rammohan Reddy and Vamshi Chandra Reddy, NSUI National President Roji M John and Telangana Youth Congress president Anil Kumar Yadav were also present.
