Expressing the hope that the New Year 2011 would usher in an era of peace, prosperity and development in the state, the Andhra Pradesh Congress on Saturday cut a cake to mark the occasion.
Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President D Srinivas cut a cake and offered a piece to his long-time friend and Legislative Council Chairman A Chakrapani to start off the function at the Gandhi Bhavan.
In attendance were a host of Congress leaders of all hues who greeted Srinivas and Dr. Chakrapani.
Srinivas, after the cake-cutting and the show of camaraderie, reminded that 2010 had been hard on the farmers with successive natural calamities leaving them in a state of penury. He expressed the hope that the New Year would not be as disastrous as the past one, especially for the farming community.
Srinivas also expressed the hope that there would be peace in the state, particularly in the light of the Justice Srikrishna Report due to be made public. He said that he was praying that cooler heads prevail, and there would be no violence or vandalism in the aftermath of the report.
The PCC chief also extended his warm greetings to the people of the state and to the journalist fraternity. He hoped that the media would be less critical of the Congress party in 2011.
MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar, Mahila Congress President Ganga Bhavani, party General Secretary Niranjan and other senior Congress leaders took part in the event.
