BRS working president K T Rama Rao today visited Lingampally village in the Tungaturthi constituency of Suryapet district and paid tributes to BRS worker Uppala Mallaiah, who was allegedly brutally killed by Congress workers.
KTR offered floral tributes to Mallaiah's portrait and extended his condolences to the bereaved family. He also handed over Rs 5 lakh as immediate financial assistance and assured the family of the party's full support in all aspects.
Addressing a gathering later, KTR ridiculed the Congress government, saying that it appeared to be scared even of sarpanch and panchayat elections. He asked why if the Congress had truly delivered wonders over the past two years - including loan waivers, housing and ration cards, as claimed - it was afraid of facing elections.
KTR said that had the 420 promises made by the Congress been fulfilled, the people would themselves have celebrated the government's performance. However, it had failed miserably on all fronts, and was therefore having to resort to attacks and intimidation, he claimed.
The BRS leader said that the BRS had ruled the State for ten years without resorting to such violent politics. He also said that if attacks on BRS workers continued, the party would be forced to respond, potentially leading to a breakdown of law and order in the State.
Telangana had never had a culture of political violence, and such practices needed to stop, he said. He warned Congress leaders that circumstances would not remain the same forever, and urged them to abandon irresponsible politics and focus on people's welfare.
