Congr And TDP Trying To Skip Winter Session

"Congress is trying to do away with the assembly session as it has to answer many questions which may drag it into a tight spot."
Hyderabad | 8th December 2012
YSR Congress has demanded that the government convene the winter session of Assembly immediately to discuss pressing public issues.

"It seems that there is every effort by the state government and the main opposition TDP to skip the session scheduled for December 10, showing some alibi or the other. But we demand that the assembly should be convened to discuss issues of public interest," Party MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy told reporters here on Saturday.

A decision to convene the assembly from December 10 to 21 was taken at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting during the special session held to pass SC/ST Sub-Plan 2012 Bill. Now the Congress seems to be running away from its responsibility with the help of TDP, he said, adding that it is not able to conduct 30 days of assembly session in a year, which is against the spirit of parliamentary democracy.

Congress, in the name of the Party's State Coordination Committee meeting or the All-Party meeting, is trying to do away with the assembly session as it has to answer many questions which may drag it into a tight spot, he said.

"Main opposition TDP has been helping out Congress in various issues, and will continue its support on this issue as well. TDP is also on a sticky-wicket, and has to answer many inconvenient questions," he said, adding that with no notification issued so far, it remains doubtful if there will be a winter session or not.

The inefficiency of the state government, and the lack of commitment of TDP, have come to the fore with the two parties planning to skip the Winter Session as they are not in a position to take up public issues, from damage to crops due to cyclone Nilam, law-and-order situations, price rise to hike in power tariff, power shortage, Minimum Support Price (MSP) among others.

We demand that the session should be convened immediately to have a meaningful debate on power, agriculture and other issues as they were not allowed in the special session held to pass the SC/ST Sub-Plan Bill 2012, he said. (INN)
