Warnings of yet another cyclone hitting the state are making the rounds even as people are still struggling to get over the havoc wreaked by Cyclone Nilam in Andhra Pradesh.
With the low pressure over the east-central Bay of Bengal turning into a deep depression, the Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC) warns of the pressure being likely to develop into a cyclone over the next several hours.
At 5pm on Sunday, the centre of the depression was at 500km from Visakhapatnam, and 950 km from Chennai.
Meteorological officials say that, while the storm is unlikely to have any adverse affects on the state over the next two days, districts in coastal Andhra can expect isolated rain or thundershowers.
Warning signals have already been put up at all ports including those of Kakinada and Visakhapatnam. Also, it has been strongly recommended that fishermen be cautious if / when venturing into the sea.
Control rooms have been established in Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, and Vizianagaram, and can be contacted at the toll-free number 1800-4250-0002 in case of emergency.
