The CM visited low-lying areas of Hyderabad, and told officials ensure that all nalas and manholes are cleared immediately.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday visited low-lying areas of Hyderabad to take account of people's difficulties due to the rains in the last 2 days.
The Chief Minister toured Raj Bhavan Road, Nampally, Afzalgunj, Chadherghat, Malkpet, Moosarambagh and Golnaka areas, amidst heavy rains.
He instructed officials to pump water out of roads where it was stagnating, and to ensure that all nalas and manholes are cleared immediately so that water-logging may be minimized.
He told officials of the GHMC and R&B to swing into action immediately, and told the police to see that there are no traffic jams.
Later, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the Golnaka bridge across Musi at Amberpet.
The new bridge, connecting Golnaka and Malakpet, was constructed at a cost of Rs. 6.42 crore. With a length of 426.8 metres and a width of 12 metres, the bridge is aimed to benefit about 10,000 vehicle users, who will now be able to reduce both travel time and distance between Race Course at Malakpet from Golnaka.
However, the inaugural ceremony was marred by heavy rains. Thanks to water-logging at several places, the Chief Minister's arrival at the venue was delayed by almost 2 hours.
The policemen on bandobust duty were completely drenched, waiting for the Chief Minister's convoy, and guests and general public who came to attend the ceremony were seen using chairs to protect themselves from the heavy downpour.
Kiran Kumar Reddy reached the venue in a new bus along with other ministers and officials. However, the bus hit a temporary arch that was installed to welcome him. This forced the CM and others to walk a distance of upto 50-60 metres.
And due to the chaos, Kiran Kumar Reddy could not make his speech, and left the venue soon after inaugurating the bridge.
The CM also laid the foundation stone for the construction of another bridge at Krishnanagar.
In addition, he inaugurated the 33/11 KVA sub-station of APCPDCL at Malakpet Gunj (Mahboob Mansion).
He also laid foundation stone for the 132/33 KVA sub-station of APTRANSCO at Amberpet STP area. This sub-station will feed 33/11 KV sub-stations of Asmangunj, Bathukammakunta, Moosarambagh, Amberpet and Durganagar.
He visited the Mahankali Temple at Amberpet, where he participated in the Yagna and a special Aarti.
Later, the CM said that the government was determined to develop the city and provide people with as many civic amenities as possible. He said special focus would be given to the Old City.
Hyderabad will be a slum-free city soon, and this project will be taken up under the Rajiv Awaas Yojana, he said.
The CM said that in order to reduce flooding, widening was taken up for 15 nalas at a cost of Rs. 256 Crores.
It may be recalled that 2 days ago, the Chief Minister had opened the newly-constructed ramps for the PVNR Expressway and part of Phase II of Outer Ring Road.
During his city tour, the CM directed GHMC Commissioner M T Krishna Babu to immediately depute his staff to see that problems in low lying areas are minimized. Enroute, he also spoke to the locals about their problems.
City ministers Mukesh Goud and Danam Nagender, MPs V Hanumantha Rao and Anjan Kumar Yadav, GHMC Mayor Banda Karthika Chandra Reddy, MLAs Sudhir Reddy and G Kishan Reddy, and other officials were also present. (INN)
