Hyderabad | 2nd September 2024
In a move to handle future disasters better, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today decided to establish a Telangana Disaster Response Force (TGDRF) in the State.

The main objective of this initiative is to strengthen the State's ability to respond effectively to emergencies.

The Chief Minister held a review meeting on the flood situation and relief operations at the Command Control Centre. On the occasion, he gave specific instructions to the authorities on handling the heavy rains and the relief operations, asking them to remain vigilant in the areas where heavy rains were predicted.

The Chief Minister also asked the various district Collectors to set up call centres in their respective districts and also to constitute a system at the Command Control Centre to deal with the emergency situation.

He also said that 8 police battalions should be provided training on par with that at the NDRF for emergency services during heavy rains.

Reddy also announced a Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia to the kin of each of the people who died in the floods. Officials were also told to increase the compensation for the loss of cattle, goats and sheep.

"The State government will submit a comprehensive report on flood damages to the Centre, seeking immediate assistance. The Centre should declare the floods in Telangana as a national calamity," Reddy said, and added that he would write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to visit the flood-affected areas in Telangana.

The Police Commissioners of Greater Hyderabad have been asked to address the traffic problems, if any, due to the heavy rains. Reddy also instructed officials to take up the repairs of the roads damaged due to the rains and resolve the power cuts on a priority basis.
